Tax Center Greeter
This volunteer opportunity is open throughout tax season (January - April). Complete a brief open-book test (less than one hour) to become an IRS-certified volunteer. Upon certification, you can volunteer to be one of the first friendly faces our clients see when they arrive at United Way. You'll welcome them, explain how to program works, and ensure they have all the necessary documents to get their taxes prepared.

Tax Preparation Intern
Strengthen your resume and demonstrate to employers your skills at applying tax law, using tax software and working with customers to complete an accurate tax return. Free training is provided by United Way to help you complete the IRS certification required to become a volunteer. This internship is an excellent opportunity to learn about the United Way of Central Alabama and work with a nationwide program: the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program (VITA), all while making a difference in our community. Tax Preparer
We are continuously in need of volunteers to prepare tax returns year round, including evening and select Saturday options during tax season. We welcome volunteers of all backgrounds; you do not need to have professional experience in accounting or finance to help. Complete our tax-preparation training classes (approximately six hours) to become an IRS-certified tax preparer. Once certified, you can volunteer to complete tax returns for members of our community and choose days and times that best fit your schedule.
